Principal’s Statement

Malea Mouton-Fuentes

Hello, I am Malea Mouton-Fuentes. I am the Principal of Willie L. Brown Jr. Middle School (WBMS).

I grew up in Bayview/Hunter’s Point, and my parents have lived down the street from WBMS for over 30 years. I have 18 years of experience as an educator serving young people in public schools. I taught Special Education and worked for the New York City Department of Education for ten years before joining WBMS during its inaugural school year. I worked at WBMS as Assistant Principal for six years before becoming Principal. With intention, purpose, and love, I am excited to continue serving San Francisco’s youth in my neighborhood.

Through my experiences, I have learned that strong, positive relationships play a huge role in a community’s ability to support students through the challenges and joys of middle school; developing and fostering these will be my top priority. I look forward to building upon the amazing work we have already achieved and the special magic that happens on the WBMS campus. Our core values are clear: we are student-centered, we hold equity at the center of our work, and we offer top-notch instruction to our students. As a school, we have made many strides to provide a rich academic environment while balancing it with a collaborative and nurturing community. I am deeply honored to get to lead this team!

I hope that we will continue to bring our staff and community together so that we can lean on each others’ strengths, share best practices, and illuminate areas for growth to continue to create conditions in our classrooms for students to excel. I look forward to our partnership during the upcoming school year. I am confident that together we will further enhance a thriving community of young scholars at Willie Brown Jr. Middle School!
